I mentioned the fact that conspiracies exist in my post about anger. One thing the conspirers will try to do is to anger us with lies about other people. But that isn’t the only reason they will lie.

They may lie to convince us that they mean no harm in the power they demand. They may lie to convince us that they need the power they demand in order to keep us safe. They may lie to convince us that there are no conspiracies.

Most of all, they have been lying to us for years about God and His existence. They pretend that atheism is moral and logical when honest atheists will admit that atheists have a lot more to explain about the world than theists.

“Experts” may even lie to us.

In the midst of this complicated morass of deception, what are we to do? The answer is simple: follow the Prophet.

Please read the entirety of the talk linked above; if we act in accordance with it, we can rest assured that, though we may be deceived for a small time, we can reassert truth in our lives when we change our opinions to align them with instruction from the Lord’s Prophet and the other prophets, seers, and revelators who stand as the earthly representatives of the Head of the Church: Jesus Christ.

How can we be assured of that? President Wilford Woodruff gave the answer:

The Lord will never permit me or any other man who stands as President of this Church to lead you astray. It is not in the programme. It is not in the mind of God. If I were to attempt that, the Lord would remove me out of my place, and so He will any other man who attempts to lead the children of men astray from the oracles of God and from their duty.

In other words, God will ensure that what the Prophet tells us will be to our eternal benefit.

So if you hold an opinion that is contradicted by something the President of the Church, his counselors, or any of the Apostles have said, change your opinion. Align with the Brethren. Do not reject their counsel.

And if you do this, there is one great side effect.

During the calamities that rocked the American continents on the Savior’s death, the “righteous” were spared. What set them apart from the wicked? The prophet Mormon gave the answer:

And it was the more righteous part of the people who were saved, and it was they who received the prophets and stoned them not; and it was they who had not shed the blood of the saints, who were spared—

3 Nephi 10:12

Those who “receive the prophets” and refused to shed the blood of the saints, are the ones that were spared from God’s wrath.
